Noriyuki Fuku, Associate Researcher, guest researcher

Current project/position

Dr Norijuki Fuku is an  Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Health and Sprots Science, Juntendo University in Japapn. Hir research focuses on the genetics of physical performance and their related-phenotypes such as muscle mass, muscle strentgth, muscle fibre type, maximum oxygen consumption, and so on, as well as on the genetics of adaptation to physical training and of injury prevention. He also focuses on the genetics of life styel related diseases such as diabetes as well as longevity. He has published over 130 papers, i.e., >80 peer-reviewed English papers and >50 Japanese papers. He is also visiting researcher of Lund University and an adjunct researcher of National Institute of Health and Nutrition (Tokyo, Japan) and Waseda Univeristy (Saitama, Japan).

Current projects

  • The role of genetic factors which determine muscle fiber type composition
  • Effect of East Asian specific mitochondrial derived peptide (MOTS-c) polymorphism on diabetes
  • Candidate gene approach and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for physical performance and its related phenotypes such as exercise response and/or sports injury
  • Effects of physical performance-associated polymorphisms on lifestyle-related diseases or longevity.
