Awards for Leif Groop

Professor Leif Groop, international known diabetes researcher and coordinator of Lund University Diabetes Centre, is now assigned an other established award: Matti Äyräpää-award of 20 000 eur. The prize is awarded by the Finnish medical society Duodecim.

Leif Groop who is born in Finland, has during his long carrier contributed to the increased knowledge of the genes roles when it comes to Type 2 Diabetes and who also discovered LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults), a mixed form of diabetes Type 1 and Type 2.

The past years has Leif several times been awarded for his breakthroughs: last autumn Leif was awarded the Fernström award, included a prize sum of one million Swedish crowns. The prize is awarded by the Fernström foundation and is known to be the most prestigious medicine prize worldwide, apart from the Nobel prize. The year before that Leif was honored the Anders Jahre award, which is awarded by Oslo University, also that with a sum of one million Norwegian crowns.  Leif has also been awarded to recipient of the Söderbergs award 2014, which the Swedish medical society awards every second year.
