2012 Edward James Olmos Award for Advocacy in Amputation Prevention

DPCon2012 Conference Co-chairmen George Andros, MD, and David G. Armstrong, DPM, MD, PhD, are pleased to announce that the Edward James Olmos Award for Advocacy in Amputation Prevention Honoree for 2012 is Jan Apelqvist, MD, PhD.

One of the world´s most distinguished experts on the diabetic foot, diabetes-related complications and wound management, a noted researcher, a skilled clinician, a profilic author and a respected aducator, Dr. Jan Apelqvist is Senior Consultant, Department of Endocrinology, Skåne University Hospital, Malmö, Sweden and Associate Professor, Division for Clinical Scineces, University of Lund, Sweden.
"Jan Apelqvist is the Ingmar Bergman of Swedish diabetic foot medicine and the Stieg Larsson of Scandinavian wound care, and like their remarkable art, Jan´s equally remarkable scientific work is known not just in Sweden but throughout Europe, and indeed the world," said Dr. Armstrong.

"Going back some 30 years to his earliest days as a physician, Jan has lived and breathed diabetic foot research and care - he is an international scientist totally focused on the goal of preventing amputations and saving limbs", Dr. Andros said.
