Professor AK Azad Khan is a renowned expert with extensive experience in the prevention and management of Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs). He earned MBBS (Dhaka, 1965), FCPS (Pakistan, 1970), PhD (Oxford, 1977). Dr. Khan's professional journey has been marked by significant contributions to academia and clinical practice. He was the Professor of Gastroenterology at the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Research (IPGMR) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His academic prowess was recognized by the award of an Honoris Causa Medicinae Doctorem from the University of Basel, Switzerland, in 1999. In 2001, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), London. He also served as the Director of Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM), leaving an indelible mark on the institution's growth and development. Throughout his career, Dr. Khan has been a tireless advocate for diabetes care and research in Bangladesh. He has held key leadership positions in the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh, including Secretary General and later President. Additionally, he has contributed to the advancement of medical education as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences and as Chairman of the Governing Body at Ibrahim Medical College
