Current position
Project assistant at Lund Universityk, Dept of Clinical Sciences in Malmö, Diabetes and cardiovascular disease - genetic epidemiology. June 2016 - present.
Research interests
Cancer epidemiology, in particular metabolic and genetic risk factors in relation to risk and prognosis of cancer. Diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular diseases; their determinants and their associations with risk of cancer.
Ongoing projects
Metabolic factors and bladder cancer risk in Me-Can study
The study includes 470.000 individuals, of which approximately 2100 incident bladder cancer cases in Metabolic Syndrome and Cancer (Me-Can) project, which includes six cohorts in Sweden, Norway and Austria. Metabolic factors relate to body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, plasma glucose, triglycerides and total cholesterol. These factors are studied both individually and in interaction with smoking associated with bladder cancer risk. Bladder cancer is studied for all tumors togehter and separately for muscle invasive and non-muscle invasive tumors.
Blood pressure and bladder cancer risk in two Malmö Cohorts
The study includes ca 60.000 individuals in the Malmö Diet and Cancer Study and Malmö Preventive Medicine which about 700 incident bladder cancer cases. Genetic analyzes include ca 48.000 individuals with ca 500 bladder cancer cases. Blood studied in relation to bladder cancer risk with the traditional analysis of the measured levels of blood pressure and with Mendelian randomization analysis where a genetic score of blood pressure studied in relation to bladder cancer risk. Blood pressure is studied both individually and in interaction with smoking. GSTM1 and NAT2, detoxifying agents that catalyze certain cardinogens associated with bladder cancer risk. Bladder cancer is studied for all tumors together and separately for muscle invasive and non-muscle invasive tumors.
