The Prevalence, Predicition and Prevention Study
The Prevalence, Prediction and Prevention of type 2 diabetes (PPP)-Botnia Study is a population-based study in Western Finland with the aim to:
- Study genetic and non-genetic risk factors for T2D
- The prevalence of glucose abnormalities and the metabolic syndrome in the adult population
- Use this information for prediction and prevention of the disease.
The PPP-Botnia Study has been carried out 2004-2008 at five Health Care Centers in the Western Coast of Finland. Altogether 5208 individuals aged 18-75 (ca 7% of the population), identified through the Population Registry, and participated in the study. Individuals will be followed at 5 year intervals with OGTT starting in 2010.
