The Prevalence, Predicition and Prevention Study

The Prevalence, Prediction and Prevention of type 2 diabetes (PPP)-Botnia Study is a population-based study in Western Finland with the aim to:

  1. Study genetic and non-genetic risk factors for T2D
  2. The prevalence of glucose abnormalities and the metabolic syndrome in the adult population
  3. Use this information for prediction and prevention of the disease.

The PPP-Botnia Study has been carried out 2004-2008 at five Health Care Centers in the Western Coast of Finland. Altogether 5208 individuals aged 18-75 (ca 7% of the population), identified through the Population Registry, and participated in the study. Individuals will be followed at 5 year intervals with OGTT starting in 2010.
