Lena Eliasson is appointed Professor in Experimental Diabetes Research at Lund University since 2011 and she is part of Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC). She has a Master in Engineering Physics, Chalmers Tehnical University in Gothenburg (1993) and a PhD in Cellular Physiology, Gothenburg University (1997). Her research aims to understand cellular mechanisms underlying impaired islet hormone secretion contributing to the pathogenesis of diabetes. The focus is on single cell physiology involving studies of ion-channels, exocytosis and non-coding RNA networks important in the regulation if islet cell secretion. She is leading in work concerning microRNA networks in islet cells for better treatment and diagnostics, and have several studies discussing the role of microRNAs in the regulation of islet cell function.
