Current research interest

Macro- and microvascular complications of diabetes: Studies on NFAT (Nuclear Factor of Activated T-cells) as a novel target for the treatment of atherosclerosis and vascular dysfunction in diabetes.

Ongoing projects

  1. Test the impact of NFAT signaling inhibition in vivo in a type 2 diabetic model that better replicates the human pathology and develops advanced atherosclerotic plaques.
  2. Use novel non-invasive methods to longitudinally assess diabetes-induced atherosclerosis and specifically ask whether treatment with the NFAT blocker A-285222 leads to plaque regression or limited progression of lesions or both.
  3. Test the role of NFATc2 isoform in the development of microvascular complications of diabetes.
